White paper 2016
Labs Role In Educating Physicians In Personalised Medicine
Following the 2014 webinar series by the EPEMED Education Committee discussing the “Education and Knowledge Gaps in Personalised Medicine” and the output from dedicated workshops in conjunction with EuroBioForum’s 3rd annual and Diaceutics Convergence meeting, laboratories were identified as having a key role in educating physicians on testing in personalised medicine but remaining an untapped source in the training and educational space.
Over 2015, EPEMED Education Committee was thus keen to further explore how the laboratory-physician relationship could further help in closing or, at the very least, narrowing the physician education gap in personalised medicine. Therefore the task was to embark into a further study, resulting in a white paper, on the “Laboratories Role In Educating Physicians In Personalized Medicine”.
In January, the committee started by drafting a study scope including an initial laboratory survey followed by some deep dive interviews. A specific Task Force was set up early in the process and has been supporting the core team efforts throughout the year.
We are now about to execute the research and start surveying a network of laboratories in France, United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. The qualitative research, analysis, recommendations and writing will be completed during 2016.
