The Tübingen congress will focus on the clinical applicability of PM. Specifically we will highlight aquisition and analysis of highly complex data from patients, the role of functional imaging in multiomics approaches and the translation of these techniques into clinical descision making. Topics of the meeting will encompass different medical fields including oncology, cardiology, immunology, neurological disorders, infectious diseases and others.

We will highlight these different topics in state of the art lectures, hands on workshops and interactive discussion rounds.

Scientists and physician-scientists in basic and applied medical research, technology and pharmaceutical companies who would like to gain a better understanding in the areas of data generation, analysis and application in individualized medicine or engage in discussions on state of the art technologies in each of these areas. Expected outcomes
It is necessary to formulate a patient-centred strategy involving EU decision makers and regulators in the arena of public health, to enable the EU and Member States to contribute to integrating personalised medicine into clinical practice while enabling much-greater access for patients.
In order to provide a clear focus and to devote sufficient space to analysis, discussions during the conference will concentrate on how:

We foresee a time when the genomes of each of us will be sequenced at birth to enable the prediction and prevention of genetic diseases. However, genome sequence information is not sufficient. To strive to maintain wellness we need to integrate periodic measurements about our health status through the use of omic and biosensor technologies and, most importantly, we need to understand the molecular mechanisms that translate our differences in terms of genomic sequence and environmental experiences into the differences in disease predispositions and other medically relevant traits.

Towards this end we invite the leading scientists from different fields in basic biomedical research to clinical applications to discuss the most recent advances in the field of personalised health. The conference will cover the molecular basis of health and disease, experimental models to develop and validate systems-wide medical approaches before bringing them into humans, and clinical as well as ethical issues that must be considered to bring these new approaches into the public health.

Even though first promising insights have been obtained in research, the global application of Big Data in every day Health Care is still in its infancy.

Which obstacles have to be removed for a successful application of Big Data in Health Care? What can be learned from other sectors? What are the latest research finding and innovative applications that are waiting to hit the market and revolutionize diagnosis and treatment for patients? Which measures are currently taken on a national and international level to help the Health Care system undergo this fundamental change towards a personalised medicine?

For the twelfth time in its history, Luxembourg took over the European Union presidency on July 1st for 6 months.

The presidency established Personalised Medicine as one of its health policy priorities. It is in this context that the Luxembourg Ministry of Health opens tomorrow a rich agenda of presidency events with a high level conference to elaborate on “Making Access to Personalised Medicine a Reality for Patients”.

This closed event will bring together attendees drawn from public health decision makers, representatives from the Commission, Members of the European Parliament, Patient and European umbrella organizations representing interest groups and associations actively engaged in the field of Personalised Medicine.

« It is necessary to formulate a patient centered strategy involving EU decision makers and regulators in the arena of public health, to enable EU and Member States to contribute to integrating Personalised Medicine into clinical practice while enabling much-greater access for patients » advised Anne Calteux, Senior Policy Advisor to the Luxembourg Minister of Health.

Patients’ concerns, expectations and priorities will thus be at the center of a cross-sectoral, highly relevant and dynamic discussion forum.

EPEMED is honoured to count amongst the senior delegates leading the program.  Emmanuelle Benzimra, EPEMED General Delegate, will chair the session « adressing known obstacles to integrating PM into health systems ». The conference’s main results will feed into draft Council conclusions which will be submitted by Lydia Mutsch, Luxembourg Minister of Health, to health ministers during the EPSCO Council on the 8th of December for adoption.

Besides, she emphasized that « with the Netherlands addressing access to innovative medicines as one the health priorities during their Presidency, the fundamental topic of Personalised Medicine will remain on the political agenda ».

Alain Huriez, MD EPEMED Founder and Chairman, trusts that « EPEMED will contribute to a major and decisive moment for future European strategic reflections in the field of Personalised Medicine ».

The adoption of new innovations by healthcare providers has been identified as a challenge to the growth of stratified medicine. Defining the value of the product to the healthcare provider and provision of relevant evidence to support this claim is necessary to enable the adoption of diagnostic testing.  Since inception, SMIP and its partners have created new enabling organisations within the UK, for example the Diagnostic Evidence Cooperatives, Academic Health Science Networks, Precision Medicine Catapult, NICE, Translational partnerships or similar groups in the devolved governments.

Innovate UK and other partners are to invest up to £10m in an SBRI funded competition to develop biomarker-based Stratified Medicine approaches such as diagnostic tests and analytical algorithms that are capable of stratifying patients for different clinical treatments available in the UK.   The aim is to develop and commercialise innovative diagnostic tests by engaging with the organisations within the UK  stratified medicine infrastructure to accelerate the pathway from concept to adoption.

As part of this the KTN intends to run 4 workshops to discuss the competition and allow companies the opportunity to interact with other companies and representatives from relevant parties within the UK infrastructure to build future partnerships.

It has a high potential for patients, citizens and the economy. However, today the full potential cannot be developed due to fragmented activities, insufficient communication and lack of generic solutions in the different areas of Personalized Medicine. The superordinate objective is to enable participants from different disciplines and therapeutic areas to learn from each other and to form networks in order to facilitate and accelerate the adoption of personalized medicine into medical practice – for the sake of the patients’ health.

Under the motto “Create the future of health”, the congress introduced new forms of therapy and technological innovations, offered insight into the current state of research and provided a space for discussing the political framework conditions of the health sector. The trade exhibition showcased research contributions and market-ready products from the areas of pharmaceutics, diagnostics, biotechnology, medical engineering and IT. The "Call for Projects" featured innovative projects aiming to develop products, technologies and services in the context of personalized medicine.

Diese Entwicklung ist den großen Hoffnungen geschuldet, die mit einer IGV verbunden werden: Die Identifizierung von geeigneten Biomarkern soll eine besser auf das Individuum zugeschnittene Prognostik, Prädiktion, Diagnostik, Prävention und Therapie ermöglichen, die zu Effektivitäts- und Effizienzsteigerungen in der gesamten Gesundheitsversorgung führen.
Das Verbundprojekt hat sich seit 2010 mit den Chancen und Risiken einer IGV für das deutsche Gesundheitssystem beschäftigt. Insbesondere stand dabei die Frage im Fokus, unter welchen ethischen, rechtlichen und ökonomischen Bedingungen eine IGV flächendeckend zur Anwendung kommen bzw. in den Leistungskatalog der GKV aufgenommen werden könnte und welche gerechtigkeitsethischen Problemstellungen sich vor dem Hintergrund verschiedener Effektivitäts- und Effizienzschätzungen ergeben.
Die Ergebnisse dieser Untersuchungen sollen auf dem Symposium vorgestellt und mit Experten aus Wissenschaft, Gesundheitswesen und Politik diskutiert werden.
Insbesondere sollen folgende Themen erörtert werden:
Welche Fragen der Verteilungsgerechtigkeit werden durch eine mögliche flächendeckende Einführung individualisierter Prognose-, Präventions- und Therapiemaßnahmen?
Vor welchen Herausforderungen steht die ökonomische Evaluation individualisierter Therapiemaßnahmen?
Welche rechtlichen Fragen ergeben sich bei der Einführung individualisierter Gesundheitsversorgung in den Leistungskatalog der GKV?

Das Symposium richtet sich an Personen aus den Gesundheitsberufen und der Gesundheitspolitik sowie an Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler aus der Begleitforschung (Ethik, Gesundheitsökonomie, Gesundheitsrecht).
